They do connect,

We have all heard of the famous British explorer Captain Cook who In 1770 landed Botany Bay near the site that eventually would become known as Sydney, Australia. During this period of discovery he came across what was then known as the “Healing Ground” area, named by the aborigines, it was an area filled with trees. There Cook observed the aborigines as they applied crushed leaves, gathered from these trees, to open wounds and also used those same leaves to brew tea.

Tasting the tea he found it spicy and refreshing and it was he who gave the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree its common name “The Tea Tree”. Captain Cook and his crew would later on take samples of the tea tree back to England for further study but nothing ever became of those studies and thus the amazing medical properties of the Melaleuca Alternifolia remained undiscovered to those outside of Australia.

Many years later, Dr Dennis Considen, a surgeon, recognized the medical properties of the tea tree but due to lack of training and equipment the powerful potential of the oil remained dormant yet again for the next 150 years.

In 1923 Dr A. Penfold, an Australian chemist studied the tea tree oil in depth after distilling it and found that the oil had significant antiseptic as well as bactericidal properties. He presented his findings in the year 1925 to the Royal Society of new South Wales & England and in 1930 one of the first medical references to the qualities of tea tree oil was published in the medical journal of Australia.

When World War 2 broke out the melaleuca oil was an essential part of every Australian first aid kit. Later on in 1960 further studies were conducted in an attempt to rediscover and recertify the effects of the tea tree oil and so it begun, the tea tree was the hit of the century and the Australian government had to set standards for the development of acceptable quality oil which included at least 35% terpinen 4-ol and no more than 10 % cineole. Eventually the standards would change slightly to accommodate room for further proliferation.

Today, Melaleuca oil is recognized and sold world wide. It has undergone extensive research and has proven its multiple medical benefits. A good quality oil today would have at least 35% terpinen 4-ol and no more than 10% cineole which is the 1967 standard.

Finally, Melaleuca has been re-recognized as an extremely effective cure for a variety of medical conditions. Who would have ever thought that a tree would have such a long and complex history?

So, the answer is YES, Health, wellness & a tea tree do connect. Infact, hey have connected so well that some companies have used melaleuca oil in many of their products to establish a successful health line.

AS for myself, being a health care professional and anti-polypharmacy, I have been privileged to learn and gain from the multiple benefits of the tea tree as I do consider it to be a discovery beyond all medical discoveries.

So, to all of you who have not heard of it or tried it….to say you are losing out is an understatement.

You might disagree, but hear me out on this. What should you consider before you buy an olive oil facial cleanser? You might want to think about the fact that oils could not be cleansing. One of the primary purposes of using cleansers is to remove excessive oils.

When natural oils, called sebum, build up on the skin, bacteria, which is normally present, feed on them. Sebum has some natural antibacterial activity, but only when it is initially secreted. Olive “leaf” extract has some natural antibacterial activity, too. But, it is due to a compound that is not present in the oil.

If the sebum and the bacteria continue to build up, pimples or blemishes can occur. After a while, if it is not cleaned away, odor occurs. Cleansers are an important part of any skincare ritual. While an olive oil facial cleanser might be alright for occasional use, it is not something that you would want to use on a daily basis.

People with excessive dryness may find that the popular cleansers are irritating. My suggestion is tea tree oil. It might sound like I am contradicting myself, but tea tree oil has natural antibacterial activity. Another excellent choice is manuka honey. It, too, has natural antibacterial and antioxidant activity.

The problem with most cleansers is that they contain petroleum-based alcohols. These cause burning, redness and irritation. They strip away sebum, which only stimulates the production of more. So, they are a bad choice for people with excessive oiliness or excessive dryness.

One of the things that an olive oil facial cleanser could provide is moisture. But, the cleansing would come from the use of clean clothes and warm water, not from the olive oil, itself. Your best bet is to use a gentle cleansing solution on a daily basis. There are many on the market.

On a bi-weekly or an occasional basis, use a deep cleansing mask. You may have tried masks before and found that they dried out after a few minutes. They were difficult to remove and might even have caused some irritation.

There are new masks on the market that will not dry out, because they contain macadamia oil. That is a luxurious moisturizer that soothes and nourishes the skin’s layers.

The cleansing ingredients in the mask are bentone gel, allantoin and kaolin. You will not find those ingredients in an olive oil facial cleanser. They are extracts from clay and sugar beets that work together to absorb excessive oils and pull dirt out of the pores.

Regardless of how dry your skin is, there is dirt and pollutants that need to be removed on a daily basis. There is no need to use an abrasive cleanser. But you do need to use something that has some cleansing activity.

Do yourself a favor. After cleansing, follow up with a nourishing moisturizer. Use one that contains grape seed oil during the day and one that contains avocado oil at night. You are not likely to be happy with the results of an olive oil facial cleanser. But, you have other options.

Bad breath is a terrible flaw in anyone’s personality. If you have the perfect face, hair, and body, but have bad breath- you are just good to watch. No matter how perfectly good looking you are, if you have “dragon breath”, your total physical package will become useless. And what’s worse, this problem can lead to low self confidence and self esteem, which can affect your social life and your relationship to other people.

Bad breath is a common problem to adults. Almost everybody has experienced having bad breath at some points in their lives. There are a number of causes of bad breath, but the most common of all are the odor-causing bacterial that live in our mouth. Alcoholic beverages, raw onions and garlic, dental and gum diseases, and poor oral and dental hygiene play a big role in contributing odor in your mouth.

To be able to maintain fresh-smelling breath, you have to first and foremost practice proper oral and dental hygiene. Brushing your teeth and tongue in the morning, evening and every after meal can lessen the chance of plaque build up in your teeth, which can cause bad breath. Flossing is also a brilliant way in keeping your teeth and gums healthy. There are also several home remedies for bad breath, like gargling lukewarm water with salt, baking soda, or juice of half a lemon before bedtime can help bad breath.

When it comes to herbal remedies for bad breath, chewing anise, parsley, mint, or cloves can promote saliva production. Using tea tree oil for bad breath can help relieve the problem. Tea tree oil is derived form the tea tree leaves. Tea tree oil for bad breath remedy is very useful because it contains antiseptic compounds that make it a strong disinfectant. Use toothpaste with tea tree oil or add a few drops of tea tree oil on your toothbrush alone or on your toothpaste. It has a strong aromatic flavor which can keep your mouth fresh-smelling. You may want to use mouthwash with tea tree oil for bad breath to help cure gum disease that might be one of the causes of your breath problem. Some even soak their dental floss to tea tree oil and find it effective.

Tea tree oil is very helpful in the issue of bad breath. If you are one of those who suffer from bad breath, don’t wait until you are avoided by friends or other people that you may encounter for that is very painful. It’s going to feel like you are stabbed on your chest. Use tea tree oil for bad breath cure. A few drops on your toothpaste or toothbrush is all it takes.

The world is fast waking up to the wonders of tea tree oil. The famous beauty brand “The Body Shop” has an entire line of products made from tea tree oil. These products are very helpful in preventing blemishes. They deeply purify and cleanse your skin along with absorbing excess oil. Body Shop is one of the many companies that have woken up to the amazing uses of Tea tree oil especially for acne.

Tea tree leaves were earlier used as a substitute for tea, which is how tree oil got its name. The Tea Tree oil is obtained from steam distillation of the leaves of the tree Melaleuca alternifolia. Among the 100 compounds contained in the oil terpinen-4-ol mainly accounts for most of the antimicrobial actions. This tree is native to the New South Wales located in Australia.

Tea Tree oil was used in Australia as a potent antiseptic much before any scientific research. However the recent studies support use of tea tree oil in skin care and various aliments including acne, dandruff, toenail infection, fungal infection, and Athlete’s foot. It is also used in toothpaste, mouthwashes, soaps and shampoos all over the world. It is also used to cure flu, cough and to clear congestion.

Tea Tree Oil Acne Treatment

Tea tree oil contains terepinen-4-ol that is mostly responsible for its antimicrobial properties. This helps in killing the harmful bacteria. Using tea tree oil to acne lesion helps to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is responsible for causing acne.

Tea tree oil is very effective in treatment of moderate acne. A random trial was done to prove this by the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Department of Dermatology on 124 people. This trail compared the effectiveness and tolerance of 5% tea tree oil and 5% benzoyl peroxide. The results showed that there was significant reduction using tea tree oil, albeit with slower onset of action.

Even though tea tree oil took more time in showing results, there were fewer side effects like burning, itching, dryness and stinging that benezoyl peroxide group showed.

Another study in 2007 on 60 patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris also gave notably better results than placebo.

Using Tea Tree Oil for Acne

Unadulterated tea tree oil should not be applied to acne lesion as it causes burning, itching, dryness, redness, skin irritation and even blistering. The concentration that is advised is 5% tea tree oil gel which can be applied to effected areas.

To make 5% tea tree oil solution mix 5 parts of tea tree oil to 95 parts of water (5cc of 100% tea tree oil to 95cc of water).

Brenda Harper, Calfornian aesthetician uses it on a regular basis with clients who experience acne, with “wonderful results,”. She recommends application of Glycolic acid after dabbing tea tree oil on the affected areas and waiting for 15 minutes.

While tea tree oil is safe, as long as not used internally. Data on oral use of tea tree oil is very little and reports of side effects of oral ingestion.
